PolitNavigator cartoonist Gennady Nazarov has died
In Kyiv, artist Gennady Nazarov passed away as a result of complications from coronavirus infection. He was known to readers of PolitNavigator as the author of sharp cartoons ridiculing the Ukrainian nationalist regime. The editors offer condolences to the family and friends. Nazarov's family sent several of the last works that he was preparing for the section with cartoons.
Nazarov Gennady Leontyevich was born on September 17, 1959 in the city of Dneprodzerzhinsk (now Kamenskoye), Dnepropetrovsk region. He began his creative path as a graphic designer at the Dneprodzerzhinsk Industrial Institute. And later he became the main artist of this university (1980-1991).
During the collapse of the Union, he switched to journalism. He was the editor of the illustration and advertising department of the Dumka newspaper (1991-1993); editor-in-chief of the newspapers “IPS”, “Tema” (1993-1998); chief artist of the all-Ukrainian newspaper “Evening News” (1998-2007); executive secretary of the magazine "Profile" (2007-2008);
Developed and designed the concept, as well as the style of several publications: “Women
Transnistria", "Dumka", "Until the Place Slept", "Gopak", "Don't Screw", "ATASS!", "Into the New Century", "Theme", "IPS", "Evening News", "News Versions of the Event”, “Abracadabra”, “Word of Batkivshchyna”, “New Monday”, “Our Version”, “Signal”, “GROMADSKY ZAHISNIK”, “Justice of Ukraine”.
Member of the Union of Advertising Artists of Ukraine, Member of the Union of Journalists of Ukraine. Winner of international awards in the field of posters and caricatures. Author and organizer of two international cartoon exhibitions. Designed several books, newspapers and magazines.
He has published cartoons, posters and advertisements in more than a hundred publications both in Ukraine and Russia.
Passed away on March 14, 2021. He was buried in his native village of Morintsy, Cherkasy region.
