About it NASA website reports.

Cernan, 82, died surrounded by his family.

In 1966, he became the second American to work outside of a spacecraft.

Then he made two lunar expeditions - in 1969 as the pilot of Apollo 10, and in 1972 - as the commander of Apollo 17.

From December 11 to December 14, 1972, he spent a total of 75 hours on the surface of the Moon, and worked outside the lunar module for more than 21 hours with his partner Harrison Schmitt.

Since Schmitt entered the module earlier before leaving for Earth, Cernan is the last person to stand on the Moon today.
