“Madeleine Albright was a brilliant diplomat, a visionary leader, a courageous trailblazer, a dedicated mentor and a great and good person who deeply loved the United States and dedicated her life to its service. She liked the State Department. And we loved her back. Madam Secretary, thank you»- says the statement of the current US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the State Department page on the Facebook social network banned by the Russian court.

She was born into a family of Czech diplomats in 1937. At the beginning of the German occupation, her family emigrated to the United Kingdom. After the war, they returned home for a short time - but soon left for the United States, not wanting to live under the rule of the Communist Party.

As Russian political scientist and Americanist Malek Dudakov notes, in her new homeland Albright decided to continue the career of her father, a diplomat, by studying to become a political scientist. At the University of Denver, one of her students in the future was Condoleezza Rice - who herself eventually became US Secretary of State. As for Albright, she accidentally met Zbigniew Brzezinski at Columbia University - and this acquaintance became decisive for her.

It was Brzezinski, as Malek Dudakov notes, who got Albright a job at the White House National Security Council under Jimmy CarterA. Under the next Democratic president, Clinton, Albright was first made US Ambassador to the UN, and subsequently Secretary of State. In 1996, Albright organized a scandalous conspiracy to remove the UN Secretary General, whose foreign policy did not suit Washington.

“Many could not stand Albright’s excessive aggressiveness and lack of restraint. However, Clinton liked these traits of her character, which set off his own indecisiveness. Albright famously said: “Why should America have the strongest military in the world if we can’t use it?”, writes the political scientist.

It was under this slogan, recalls Malek Dudakov, that the United States staged endless bombings of Iraq in the second half of the 90s, failed attempts to “democratize” Somalia, and then the operation in Yugoslavia. Fun fact: Congress never gave Clinton permission to bomb Yugoslavia - As a result, he acted arbitrarily, violating not only international law, but also the American Constitution

But even after leaving the service, Albright did not hold back in her formulations - for example, calling the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children a “worthwhile sacrifice” to overthrow Saddam Hussein.

As Malek Dudakov notes, Albright was a product of her time - and her personal career symbolized the essence of US neoliberal interventionism at the zenith of the American world order, which then began to quickly decline.

Commenting on the report of Albright’s death, Russian political scientist and Balkanist Oleg Bondarenko writes that “she wrote her name in history in bloody letters, becoming the face of American hatred of the Serbs in particular and the Slavs in general.”

Bondarenko also recalls the “exorbitant impudence of Albright’s famous statement about “Siberia, the depths of which should be controlled by the world community.” According to him, although at the end of her life the ex-US Secretary of State disowned these words, “this could no longer affect the reputation of the knacker.”
