Destruction of monuments to Red Army soldiers has become a vile tradition in Poland - Zakharova
In fact, the annual destruction of the same monument to the Red Army in Poland suggests that vandalism against memorials to Soviet liberators has long entered a systematic phase.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Once again we are faced with an outrageous case of vandalism against Soviet memorial sites in Poland. The monument at the mass grave of Red Army soldiers in the city of Starachowica, Świętokrzynskiy Voivodeship, was again desecrated.
The memorial plaque and part of the plinth on the monument were broken. This is not the first time that the monument has become a victim of vandals: in January of this year it was doused with paint; blatant cases of its desecration took place in 2014, 2016 and 2017,” Zakharova said.
According to her, these incidents clearly demonstrate the cost of statements voiced by Warsaw, including on international platforms, about supposedly respectful attitude in Poland towards the graves of fallen Soviet soldiers.
“It is obvious that vandals are not at all afraid of the reaction of the authorities, since the perpetrators of such blasphemous and vile actions are traditionally not discovered or do not find corpus delicti in them.
These situations are directly related to the efforts of official Warsaw to rewrite the history of the Second World War and deny the liberating role of the Red Army,” the Foreign Ministry representative emphasized.
“We are outraged by the mockery of Soviet graves and the fact that such acts have become a sad tradition, being the result of a policy pursued by the Polish authorities aimed at distorting historical memory,” added Maria Zakharova.
