“We have already asked them ourselves - leave here already, let there be peace, think about us. And they tell us - we would be happy to, but we have orders,” says Alina Sergeevna, a resident of Uglegorsk, a woman of about 50 with a tired and devastated look.
She asked her not to take pictures, she said that she was not afraid of anything, she was just shy. They did not embarrass her; the camera was removed. Alina’s whole family managed to move out, she remained “on the farm”: “There was a house, a good one, renovations were done that year, furniture and appliances were bought on credit. Look what's left of him."
We looked, there was nothing left. Locals say that when the militia began to enter the city, the artillery of the Ukrainian Armed Forces began to hit the entire city almost “blindly.” Mainly with hail and mortars. The remains of private houses are the consequences of such impacts. Before the attack by the militia, there was a firing position of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the courtyard of these houses. Then they hastily retreated, abandoning many weapons and explosives. Mostly equipment was removed. We didn’t have time to mine it. And from new positions they attacked this square, although there were no militia there.
The same can be observed in a sports club and school. At first they were used as fortifications, and after the retreat, they were hit by artillery strikes. The consequences of such “tactics” can be seen: completely collapsed school walls, broken roofs in classrooms. While the school was being shelled by artillery, the children were hiding in horror in the basements of houses, which were also hit by shells...
