“We will destroy light industry”: in Ukraine they regret the agreement signed with the Turks
Ukraine should not have signed a free trade agreement with Turkey
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by the Kiev economist and financial analyst, ex-adviser to the president of the Association of Ukrainian Banks, Alexey Kushch.
“We mainly export raw materials, and for this there is no need to sign such an agreement, since the focus is on world markets, and not consumer demand,” the expert told Izvestia.
He believes that Ukraine could easily continue to sell its scrap metal, food industry waste, and sunflower oil, but it should not have opened up to Turkish goods.
“This could bring the Ukrainian light industry, which has begun to revive in recent years, to the brink of destruction, put an end to greenhouse vegetable growing and make it impossible to revive industries with a high level of added value, such as mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. The entire market will be captured. In these conditions, it will become unprofitable to create something of your own,” Kushch concluded.
