Dejected Boyko can overtake Poroshenko, but they will be “made” by Tymoshenko and Zelensky
Even ex-“Regional” Yuriy Boyko, who is not distinguished by his eloquence and charisma, has a chance to get ahead of Petro Poroshenko in the first round of the presidential election, political scientist Alexey Yakubin said at a press conference in Kiev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One of the main intrigues in the opposition anti-Maidan field is the intrigue around a single candidate. We see that the most rated now is Yuriy Boyko. But the question remains open whether he will become that point of crystallization of the anti-Maidan voter, and not only in the South-East. If he succeeds, first of all, with the agenda of peace, negotiations, exchange of sailors, the issue related to tariffs, then there is a possibility that he and Yulia Vladimirovna will end up in the second round, but Pyotr Alekseevich will not,” - Yakubin said.
However, he immediately admitted that the nomination of comedian Vladimir Zelensky will confuse all the cards in the pre-election layout - in this case, he and Tymoshenko already share the first places in the ranking of candidates.
“After Zelensky’s recent interview, we can say with 99% probability that we have one more on the list of real candidates. He will confuse the cards for a lot of people because, to put it mildly, he brings discomfort on Bankova, discomfort for representatives of the “Opposition Bloc.”
If you look at sociology, he “snatches” interest from a lot of people. In addition to the electorate that votes “against everyone” and the “electoral swamp” that often changes its opinion, there are also people who are ready to reorient themselves from existing politicians. For many years now, our elections have been held on the principle of choosing not the best, but the best from the worst.
With the emergence of new candidates, we will see flows from Tymoshenko, Poroshenko, and other politicians - depending on how Zelensky’s campaign is structured. Now he has second place, he is ahead of Pyotr Alekseevich,” the political scientist said.
