The UOC-MP has more independence than Poroshenko’s fake church
The church entity that Petro Poroshenko proposes to create together with Istanbul Patriarch Bartholomew will be much less independent than the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate.
Political scientist Kirill Molchanov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the form in which Constantinople proposes, it can be called a “local” (Church) only because its temples will be located “locally.” This will have nothing to do with autocephaly; there will be complete subordination to Constantinople, and even the current autonomous status of the UOC-MP is much more independent than what Bartholomew proposes.
And there is not only a reduction in status from the Patriarchate to the metropolitanate (and, de facto, to the exarchate), but also, they will receive the same chrism from Constantinople. Any appeals will take place in Phanar (the residence of the Patriarch of Constantinople), and there will be no permission to open representative offices abroad.
The exarchs will remain here for life, they will oversee the processes in Ukraine.
Therefore, the question whether this will be an exchange of sewing for soap is rhetorical. But for Pyotr Alekseevich it doesn’t matter what happens here, the main thing for him is to at least sell something to his voter,” said the political scientist.
