Ural astronomers joined the team of discoverers of a new planet the size of Jupiter
Scientists from the Ural Federal University, together with colleagues from 10 countries, have discovered a new planet outside the solar system the size of Jupiter, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The press service of the university reported this.
“The planet has been named KPS-1b and orbits a Sun-like star with a period of 40 hours. The mass and size of KPS-1b are close to the characteristics of Jupiter, but the temperature of its atmosphere is much higher than that of Jupiter... The search for new exoplanets and their studies allow scientists to get closer to understanding how the Solar System formed and evolved,” the release states.
The discovery was made jointly with astronomers from Belgium, the USA, England, France, the Netherlands, Turkey, Portugal, Lithuania, Italy and Canada and published in the journal Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.
