Lesson from Mariupol: The Ukrainian Armed Forces are now retreating, fearing encirclement
The course of hostilities in recent days shows that the armed forces of Ukraine are not able to hold Lisichansk.
PolitNavigator correspondent and military expert Vladislav Shurygin reports this.
“In recent days, it has become clear that Ukrainian forces will definitely not hold out in Lysichansk. Since the assault on Zolotoy and Gorsky, our troops have been acting in a spirit of courage and it is impossible to stop them. I think that the city can be completely liberated within a week.
It is possible that the command of the Ukrainian forces will give the order to leave the new cauldron. We saw this in Gorskoye and Zolotoy. Such a maneuver would be costly for Ukrainian forces. The main roads are cut, so they will inevitably suffer heavy losses,” the analyst told Izvestia.
He emphasized that after the cauldron in Mariupol, which ended in mass surrender, the Ukrainian military is not eager to remain surrounded.
“Now they are starting to leak from Lisichansk to the west. But at the same time, someone will remain in the city to distract the allied units leading the attack and cover the withdrawal of the main forces. I think they will have a new defensive line on the line Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Konstantinovka. There they will once again try to gain a foothold and hold back the advance of the allied forces,” Shurygin concluded.
