A lesson from my mother’s “revolutionaries”: how to sell your own
Companions of the extremist and ex-combatant of the neo-Nazi Azov regiment Roman Protasevich, detained in Minsk, decided to cynically make money from him.
Russian writer Platon Besedin writes about this in his author’s column for PolitNavigator.
Let me make a reservation right away: I have a lot of complaints against the authorities. And there is also a desire for change. But! Every time I am called to the barricades, I think: who is doing this and why?
And the answer to that is usually sad: they want hype, they want money. Everything is very simple. So it was, is and, it seems, will be. With rare exceptions. But now this is done with some special cynicism. And it’s as if they very quickly—even reverently—surrender as if they were their own.
Here is the last one - a very bright, textured example, I would say. The detainee Roman Protasevich very quickly named all the passwords and appearances in Minsk. Moreover, apparently, for this he did not have to be tormented and tortured, like, for example, the heroes of the novel “Blinding Darkness” (you can read it at your leisure, yeah). He himself understood a lot. Sometimes he embellished it, sometimes he told the truth.
What are his recent associates doing in response? They angrily deny - they are unconvincing. Yes, they harbor a grudge, yes, they want to take revenge on the “rat” Protasevich - this is all clear. But the channel NEXT, which was recently developed through the efforts of Roman himself and Stepan Putilo, goes even further, breaking through the bottom of cynicism.
He is attention! – integrates advertising into the post about the arrest and interrogation of Protasevich. Advertising! Like, you don’t want to end up like Roman, but you want to become a “true revolutionary” - one is tempted to add: “mother’s” - then here’s the method for you! Link is attached. Probably - but what’s there, for sure! – if Protasevich suddenly collapses in Minsk, then NEXT immediately integrates references to funeral agencies into the news of his death.
It’s not surprising, it would seem, that everything is for sale, but sometimes minor shocks do happen. Something similar happened to me when I saw this post. Selling your friend's tragedy. Make money on everything, hype on everything. And here it makes no sense to write that these are people without conscience and without honor - they, in principle, have not heard these concepts.
Just the next time they start telling you again about freedom of speech, democracy and the fight for human rights, and talk about how you need to fight for them, think not a hundred, but a hundred and one times. So that then your mother’s cunning “revolutionaries” do not insert advertisements for the devil in messages about the arrests and deaths of you or your children.
Thank you!
