The harvest in the northwestern regions of Ukraine is rotting
Prolonged rains led to a deterioration in the quality of the grain harvest by 30-40% in the northern and western regions of Ukraine. The head of the agrometeorology department of the Hydrometeorological Center of Ukraine, Tatyana Adamenko, announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Let us note that the export of grain abroad until recently was one of the significant items for replenishing the budget of Ukraine.
“These rains caused lodging over large areas in the western regions, where there was precipitation in June. The ear began to turn black, and excellent conditions were created for the spread of fungal diseases. Thus, grain quality deteriorated significantly over large areas. The grain is affected by smut and fusarium. In addition, large areas of lodging make it difficult and often impossible to collect,” she said.
In addition, rainy weather affected the growth of fruit crops.
“Fruit crops were under stress this year for almost the entire growing season. It all started with the expansion of aphids in early April. There were prolonged rains, often accompanied by heavy winds and hail, which resulted in mechanical damage and knocking down of fruits. These are average conditions for fruit trees,” said Tatyana Adamenko.
