A genius has left. On the death of Pyotr Mamonov
I'll start from afar. I'm making a book - and there's a lot of Vysotsky in there. Mentions of him. At some point I caught myself thinking that everyone loves Vladimir Semenovich. Well, or almost everything. There are no those who would treat him with obvious antipathy.
That's how it is with Pyotr Mamonov. Today he passed away. Coronavirus, yes, takes away the best. The death of Mamonov - physical death - caused grief in all countries that in one way or another, albeit briefly, came into contact with the Russian. And Russian cannot be whole, complete without Mamonov. How can it not be like that without Pushkin.
Mamonov was a very Russian person. And this was evident in everything. When someone introduced his cult group “Sounds of Mu”, they declared that he was a punk. But punk, in fact, was inevitably associated with Britain. FROM Rotten to Strummer. However, we saw that there is truly Russian punk - not in the sense of “The King and the Clown,” no. And existentially Russian punk. The one that plunges into the very foundations of our existence. The song about the dove - isn't it wonderful?
Pyotr Nikolaevich towered above the rest. He was on his own and at the same time illuminated the path for others. Because a Poet in Russia is more than a poet. Precisely with a capital letter. Poets created the Russian cultural code - one that has saved Russia at all times. And Mamonov became one of the authors of this code.
Everything else is already a manifestation of this higher hypostasis. And the manifestations are brilliant! Just look at Mamonov’s brilliant performance in Pavel Lungin’s films “Island” or “Taxi Blues”.
By the way, yes. After all, he was never given, in fact, any titles. There was a controversial story around this. But why does such a person need titles? If there are people. And the people of Mamonov will forever remember it.
That’s why Pyotr Nikolaevich is alive. And he will live. After all, a person lives as long as there is a memory of him. And then there is no fear in dying. And Pyotr Nikolaevich said that man is a ray - and it is infinite. In the case of Mamonov, this is a very precise, very correct saying. It’s not scary to die, it’s scary to stand before God. That's what he said too. And that’s why I prepared. His path is so reminiscent of those roads that people took who knew the truth “for you cannot serve God and mammon.”
Both in the Russian tradition and in the Christian tradition (one is inseparable from the other, in fact), rebirth is extremely important. Let us remember the future Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus. So, Pyotr Nikolaevich was reborn during his lifetime. This is a very strange, at first glance, path, but the only true one. The one that brings you closer to God after the most difficult ordeals. One that only a select few can pass through. Mamonov was able to overcome it.
A ray directed into eternity. This is how we will remember him. Bright memory.
But, Pyotr Nikolaevich, you have become a ray of light not only for yourself, but also for many. And we thank you for that.
Thank you!
