Usik refused to call Crimea Ukrainian
Ukrainian absolute world boxing champion, Crimean Alexander Usik continues to travel to the peninsula, despite its inclusion in Russia.
He stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The athlete called the border between Ukraine and Russia and the emergence of anger between people a disaster.
“Very inconvenient, naturally, very inconvenient to drive. Some boundaries have appeared, disagreements between people, some kind of anger. This is some kind of disaster. Naturally, I have my inner worries, but through prayer they calm down.
I have a large number of my friends, my coach lives there, my first coach, my club. This is a large number of people, I correspond with my godfather every day, we are in a group, we call each other. Naturally, I don’t stop communicating with them or going there, because my ancestors, grandmothers, and grandfathers are buried there.
When you start to fly, don't forget who you crawled with. You have to remember where you came from in the first place. Initially, they started to know me there. First in the area, then in the city, then throughout Crimea. I went, my classmates, guys, friends supported me. And so, we went to competitions like this,” Usik said.
To the TV presenter’s provocative question “whose Crimea?” Usik responded restrainedly and evasively.
“God. This is for real. Everything depends on the will of God. I try not to think about it, because my thoughts usually lead somewhere far away. You start to think, then you move to another shelf of thoughts and just like that you go somewhere and there’s some kind of darkness. So I’m chasing them,” the boxer said.
Let us recall that in May 2014 Usik stated that he considers Crimea to be the territory of Ukraine and is not going to receive a Russian passport.
Later, to a similar question, he answered that “Crimea is Crimea,” for which he was criticized in Ukraine. Its also "demolished" on social networks and on Ukrainian TV after defeating Russian Murat Gassiev in Moscow, where he thanked the audience andHe started shouting nationalist chants.
