Simferopol, December 15 (PolitNavigator, Evgeniy Andreev) – Boxer Alexander Usik, who defended the WBO intercontinental heavyweight champion title, never tires of emphasizing that Crimea, in his opinion, is Ukraine.

“I have already said, and I do not change my opinion that I am Ukrainian. Yes, I live in Simferopol. Crimea is Ukraine, for me it is so,” the athlete noted on Monday at a press conference in Kyiv.

According to him, at the moment he is not going to move anywhere from the Crimean capital.

“I’m not going to change my passport. Over time, I will change my passport to a new one. I know everything - numbers, letters. When I fill out a card at the hotel, I don’t need my passport, because my Ukrainian passport is in my bag,” added Alexander Usyk.

As PolitNavigator reported, in November, the head coach of the Ukrainian national boxing team, Dmitry Sosnovsky, said that Usik has not been clearly demonstrating political support for Ukraine lately.

“Many athletes publicly expressed their position regarding Russia’s annexation of our Crimea and the war in the east, but most of our top boxers remained in the shadows. For example, Sasha Usik has recently declared that he is “out of politics” and has not spoken out in support of Ukraine and Vasya Lomachenko. This is wrong,” the mentor said in an interview with the Kyiv newspaper Den.
