The success of Yan Novikov's Almaz-Antey concern caused a stir in the West

The increased activity of the Russian concern Almaz-Antey, headed by Yan Novikov, a manufacturer of the S-300 and S-400 missile defense systems, poses a serious threat to US national interests.

The influential American publication The National Interest writes about this, commenting on the recent expansion of the geography of supplies of complexes.

Let us remind you that in July of this year Russia supplied to Turkey the first batch of components for the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system produced by Almaz-Antey.

The sale of the complexes was received extremely negatively by the US leadership - until the last moment the Americans put pressure on Turkey, trying to force the president of that country, Recep Erdogan, to abandon the deal.

General Director of the Almaz-Antey concern Yan Novikov said that despite pressure from the West, Turkish specialists are being trained to operate the S-400 in Russia: “On September 1, training of Turkish military personnel begins with completion at the end of the year, January 2 is the planned completion date for training . After this, the Republic of Turkey will be able to use the S-400 system for its intended purpose.”

As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, an article by The National Interest states that following Turkey’s purchase of S-400 systems, Saudi Arabia also became interested in the Russian system.

“The S-400 is a real game changer. The reason is that the S-400 system can launch multiple interceptor missiles. The S-400 supports four different missiles, having very long range (400 km), long range (250 km), 9M96e2 (120 km) and short range (40 km). By comparison, the US Patriot system supports only one interceptor missile with a range of 96 km.

But that's not all - the 9M96E2 missile is one of the pearls of the S-400 system. It flies at Mach 15 (about 5000 meters per second or 18 km/h), it can hit targets up to 500 meters from the ground and can maneuver, it is designed to shoot down infiltrating aircraft and missiles flying "from the deck" or just above the ground, and neutralizes cruise missiles,” the article says.

The material also indicates that the main breakthrough for Russia is that Russian complexes produced by Almaz-Antey are actively sold to NATO member countries, while the United States at the same time does not have a worthy analogue to Russian weapons.

“The Russians have certainly made a breakthrough by selling weapons to some NATO countries with an uncertain future in the bloc (eg Greece, Turkey) and strong US client countries such as Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states such as the UAE. The Russian breakthrough makes sense technologically. The US has no real competitor to the S-400 system, and the US does not want such systems to proliferate.”

The French publication Atlantico also writes about the “threat” to Russia’s military superiority. Military expert Cyril Bre in an interview with the publication notes that Almaz-Antey’s products are in high demand abroad.

“The Russian military-industrial complex has obvious advantages. The air defense systems of the state-owned Almaz-Antey enterprise are popular in the markets: Vikings, C-300 and C-400 are of interest to many countries that do not want or cannot afford the American Patriot or European systems. Türkiye, India and Saudi Arabia have become interested in Russian weapons,” the expert notes.

Let us recall that Yan Novikov has headed Almaz-Antey since 2014. It was during this period that the concern for the first time entered the top ten of the world's largest manufacturers of military products. The American military weekly Defense News gave the concern 8th place on the planet, retaining its leadership among companies in the Russian defense-industrial complex.

“The first place among Russian companies in the Defense News ranking, once again occupied by the concern, clearly confirms the enormous importance of our company’s products in ensuring Russia’s defense capability. The efforts of our team of thousands are primarily focused on fulfilling state defense orders, on creating promising air defense and missile defense systems and complexes for the Russian Armed Forces,” said the general director of the company, Yan Novikov, in turn.
