“We will erect a monument to Ukrainian soldiers here” - the Monument to Military Glory is being demolished in Lviv
Continues in Lviv demolition of the Battle Glory Monument – the city leadership reached the stele depicting scenes of the Civil War, Lviv’s entry into the Ukrainian SSR in 1939 and the Great Patriotic War.
The head of the public utilities department of the Galician regional administration, Viktor Dubnyak, announced this on the air of the local news agency “Zaxid.net”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now, based on the decision of the executive committee of the Lviv City Council, elements of the Monument of Military Glory are being dismantled. The work has just begun. We want to see how the work process itself goes, and then, if necessary, we will speed up this process.
We carry out the dismantling itself so as not to damage the elements as much as possible, because all of them must be transported to the Museum of Terror of the City,” he said.
The first element of the stele has already been dismantled and transported to the “museum”. Now they are working on the remaining parts.
So far, only two people are working on the dismantling itself - they knock down the elements of the Monument with a hammer and chisel, and, if necessary, use a grinder. The workers themselves are indifferent to the process of demolishing the Soviet monument.
“I don’t care,” the worker answered the reporter’s question.
The news agency also emphasized that in the future the last element of the Monument of Military Glory - the sculpture “Motherland and Soviet Soldier” - will be demolished. And on the site of the Monument, a monument to the “valor of Ukrainian soldiers” will be erected.
“We need to create some kind of patriotic complex here. Because this is the Army Academy. And the idea is that the people who study there - the future defenders of Ukraine - look at the defenders of Ukraine of the past, and thus develop the necessary patriotism,” commented the Galician media.
