It was not possible to establish “Varfolomeevism” in Ukraine with a cavalry charge
Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople was invited to Kyiv to demonstrate the current government’s commitment to the course of Petro Poroshenko, who created the OCU, but this visit did not become something significant for the Orthodox world.
Political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko stated this in a conversation on the First Cossack channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For Zelensky, the 2019 election campaign continues. He continues to compete with Poroshenko. He continues to try to convince that he is more legitimate than Poroshenko. He is trying to convince, first of all, Poroshenko’s electorate. He wants to show that he, too, is a supporter of the ideas that Poroshenko declares,” the expert said.
“This is actually a low-key visit. This is not a visit that will receive significant attention at the Phanar itself. This is not a visit that will be popularized in any way in the world. Arrived and left. This is a passing visit without any bright events for that part of the Orthodox world that focuses on Bartholomew,” the political scientist believes.
“There is an unformed schism in the Orthodox world. Today there are churches that continue to focus on the Phanar, who collectively criticize the actions of the Phanar. I think that in this situation, Bartholomew’s visit itself could have brought some sobriety to the assessment of what was happening. The establishment of “Varfolomeyevism” in Ukraine with a cavalry charge did not work. This is the main point,” Bondarenko concluded.
