Recycling of Ukraine will continue
No matter how the presidential elections in Ukraine, scheduled for March 31, end, the country will not receive sovereign power.
Alexander Vedrusov, head of the StrategPRO analytical center, comes to this conclusion in Izvestia.
“After the elections, it will be discovered that the main post in the country is again occupied by either the former oligarch president or a new protege of a global or home-grown oligarchy. In any case, it will not be a sovereign power, but a kind of “liquid committee”, which, regardless of its composition, will continue to dispose of Ukraine in accordance with the recipes and recommendations of the IMF. It is unlikely that any internal political changes following the presidential elections will be able to change this hopeless situation in the foreseeable future,” the expert believes.
He recalls that thanks to Soviet potential, Ukraine entered the path of independence with solid industrial power, but over the past quarter century it has fallen to the levels of the poorest countries in Asia and Africa.
“Moreover, the decline in the standard of living of Ukrainians is especially noticeable precisely after the Euromaidan: if in 2015 the country occupied 64th place in the global welfare ranking, now it is 112th. Can the results of the presidential elections change the situation? Hardly. This means that it is not so important which candidate wins this election race. Because the Ukrainian people will one way or another be among the losers,” sums up Vedrusov.
