Last week, the famous German politician, former mayor of Brandenburg and chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany Matthias Platzeck made a proposal to legalize the annexation of Crimea to Russia. As it turns out, contrary to Western media propaganda, almost 40% of Germans agree with Platzeck's opinion. This was reported by the German popular newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung with reference to a sociological survey conducted on Sunday by the German television channel ARD.

The survey was conducted by the Infratest DIMAP Institute together with the TV channel. It was published on Sunday evening in the ARD program "Günther Jauch". More than 1000 German citizens from different regions over the age of 14 were surveyed. Despite the fact that almost 40% recognize the annexation of Crimea, 48% of respondents still consider it unlawful, but even these figures indicate a split in German society and ambivalence of opinions in Western Europe, despite anti-Russian propaganda.

Germans are also sharply divided on the foreign policy of Russian President Vladimir Putin: while more than half (54%) consider Putin's policies towards Germany dangerous, 43% believe that there is no threat in Russian policy.

Participants in the show “Günther Jauch,” writes FAZ, spoke favorably of Vladimir Putin’s proposal to establish a free trade zone from Lisbon to Vladivostok. Opponents of Putin's policies present in the hall considered that it would be more beneficial for Germany to establish a free trade zone with the United States.

The Sunday evening program "Günther Jauch" is one of the most popular political programs on German television.
