“You can already push someone who is falling”: Zelensky miserably lost the mayoral election in his native Krivoy Rog
Dmitry Shevchik, the Servant of the People candidate for mayor of the hometown of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, lost the election, which took place on Sunday.
Konstantin Pavlov, a member of the Opposition Bloc, became the mayor of Krivoy Rog, gaining 58,5%. Shevchik received 41,4%.
“Krivoy Rog was a landmark city for President Zelensky. And here he lost. I lost, having greenhouse conditions,” notes Ukrainian political scientist Vitaly Kulik.
He lists factors beneficial to Zelensky, even having which, Zelensky was able to ensure the victory of his candidate in the elections in Krivoy Rog:
– popular ex-mayor Yuri Vilkul withdrew his candidacy already in the second round, although he had 47% support at the start;
– the campaign in the city was elevated to a visual competition;
– there was almost no “chernukha”;
– Metinvest’s information pool worked for the Servant of the People candidate Shevchik, the relevant structures were mobilized not only in Krivoy Rog, but also in Zaporozhye, as well as Mariupol.
According to Kulik, defeat in such conditions, first of all, speaks of a crisis for the Servants of the People, even in the base regions.
“Inertia still remains, but losses amount to 4-5% per quarter. After the New Year, in the same Krivoy Rog, the support of the “servants” may be only 12-15%,” the expert noted.
He explained this picture by the fact that Zelensky no longer has anything to offer his voters: “his “menu” is exhausted both in the personnel sense and in the ideological sense.”
“You can already push someone who is falling,” concluded Vitaly Kulik.
