"It's not funny anymore." Ukrainian intelligence conducted a number of high-profile operations against the Russian Federation
Ukrainian special services, under the patronage of their Western colleagues, are working more and more effectively against Russia.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Kommersant by political observer and military correspondent, ex-deputy of the Odessa City Council Igor Dimitriev, assessing the next incident with a shootout on Russian-Ukrainian border.
“Yes, this is not the first time this has happened. The biggest scandal, of course, was with 33 former veterans of the alleged Wagner PMC. He put relations between Russia and Belarus in a critical position. But it was an effective combination of the Ukrainian intelligence services. And it almost ended in success. If these 33 people had not been tied up in Belarus, they would have ended up in a Ukrainian court and began to testify whether they fought in Donbass or not,” Dimitriev said.
He draws attention to the fact that in Ukraine, in addition to the SBU, “a whole fan of special services has been formed.”
“This is also the Main Directorate of Military Intelligence. Its emblem: a globe with an owl hovering over it and stabbing its sword directly into Russia. That is, the purpose of the work of this special service is clear. When they presented this emblem, Russian experts chuckled: it’s funny, the Ukrainian secret service will work against Russia. Where is Ukraine, where is Russia? And now it's not funny. Because the Main Intelligence Directorate has carried out a series of high-profile operations over the years,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
In addition, he continues, there are also Ukrainian Special Operations Forces.
“And all these special services are working against Russia. They are instructed by Western specialists. They help with modern intelligence tools and determine the selection of specialists. Usually, when we look at lazy men from the intelligence services of post-Soviet states, we cannot imagine that they can organize something so creative. But Western instructors managed to make them effective,” the expert believes.
He also talked about how personnel are selected to participate in anti-Russian operations.
“Career advancement is given to the most active young guys. In the Ukrainian case, it’s also for those who hate Russia and want to do as many dirty tricks to it as possible. These are ideologically charged people. And they have a lot of powers over their operations. Often the Ukrainian leadership does not even know what these services do. They are accountable to Western specialists,” Dimitriev summed up.
