This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik.
“The case against Plotnitsky and Shoigu, who are being tried in Kyiv, the expansion of US sanctions against Russia - all these are elements that certainly do not fit into an attempt to achieve peace. These are the elements that are more reminiscent of an attempt to disrupt or complicate negotiations, to raise the degree of escalation,” the expert believes.
The political scientist is also skeptical about the declared regime of silence in Donbass, pointing out that it is unlikely to last more than a few days.
“I think if the Chinese meeting of presidents ends in nothing, we will face an escalation of the conflict this year similar to Debaltsevo and the airport,” predicts Bortnik.
