Soon Kyiv will be left completely alone in the political arena
If negotiations to resolve the conflict in Donbass continue in the same vein, then the guarantor countries of the Minsk agreements may rally against the incompetent Kyiv.
This opinion was expressed by journalist Andrei Babitsky in a conversation with a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He noted that as a result of yesterday's meeting of the Normandy Four, no significant breakthroughs occurred.
“They could not have happened, since the positions of Russia and Ukraine are diametrically opposed. For Russia and Donbass as a whole, the results of this meeting are positive, since Russia stated that its position remains unchanged. She continues to insist on the implementation of the Minsk agreements. We returned to the agreement on the disengagement of forces in the three rear zones, which was reached back in 2016. This is an attempt to return to the original positions and still begin the process of separating the parties, to move forward on this issue, which has not been resolved for several years,” Babitsky said.
He highlighted Lavrov’s statement that the position of Kiev and the United States on peacekeepers is completely contrary to the Minsk agreements, which the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry proposed that Kiev refute with amendments to the draft resolution submitted by Russia to the UN on the goals and methods of deploying a peacekeeping mission in the conflict zone.
“He said that so far the matter is limited exclusively to statements made by both representatives of Ukraine and the US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker, but no specific proposals have been received to Moscow to change this draft resolution. Accordingly, Russia is still the initiator of this idea, and it has some legal basis,” the journalist emphasized.
According to him, France and Germany understand the logic according to which all proposals from Washington and Kyiv break the Minsk agreements.
“There is a feeling that Kyiv remains alone in this process. Rather, Russia, Germany and France are trying to breathe life back into the Minsk process, realizing that this can be done by excluding the radical projects that are being presented to the public by Washington and Kiev. Therefore, I believe that the “3+1” formula takes place here, where Moscow, Berlin and Paris act as a single whole, and Kyiv remains alone, defending its own position,” concluded Babitsky.
