“He realized that the DPR was threatening his business... Now Russia will not respond to Akhmetov, but in the near future his problems with Russia are inevitable,” the expert said.
However, he believes that the lack of support from Akhmetov “means the risk of economic death of the DPR even before its economic birth.”
“I don’t see any interest of Akhmetov in the DPR, except to use its threat in bargaining with Kiev. It is obvious that Akhmetov decided to create his own bantustan within the framework of confederal Ukraine, following the example of Kolomoisky. So, in any case, the DPR and Akhmetov are not on the same path. It remains to be seen whether they will divide the territory of the Donetsk region among themselves, or whether Akhmetov will finally come out on the side of Kyiv,” Kolerov concluded.
