The tougher regime for visiting Crimea introduced by Yatsenyuk has been challenged in court
Ukrainian human rights activists challenged in court the tightened regime for visiting Crimea, introduced on June 4 by the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
Sergei Zayats, an expert at the Regional Center for Human Rights, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.

According to human rights activists, in the current procedure for entry into the territory of Crimea there are many unreasonable restrictions for Ukrainian citizens, and the procedural rules regarding foreigners and stateless persons for obtaining special permission are largely contradictory and illogical.
“We demand a significant change in the procedure for entering Crimea and simplifying this procedure,” said Daria Sviridova, a lawyer at the Ukrainian Helsinki Union for Human Rights.
Human rights activists filed a lawsuit demanding that the new procedure for entry into Crimea be declared invalid and a new document approved. The procedure for entry into Crimea, in their opinion, should not contain any restrictions for citizens of Ukraine, and obtaining permits for foreigners should be simplified, they believe.
Sergei Zayats believes that the current procedure for entering Crimea limits the right to free movement and does not comply with the provision of the Constitution on limiting this right exclusively by law.
“Freedom of movement is a human right that is guaranteed by the Fourth Protocol of the European Convention on Human Rights,” the lawyer said.
According to him, any citizen of Ukraine can appeal to the European Court of Human Rights with a corresponding claim and receive compensation.
