Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko stated this on air on the Zik TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We had certain plans, and there was a potential opportunity to implement these plans at the initial stage. There was such an opportunity by building up the group in Crimea from mainland Ukraine. At what level this was ignored (the Minister of Defense or the Chief of the General Staff or the National Security and Defense Council), I do not know. But plans were reported. There is documentary evidence,” Muzhenko said.
He said that the planes with the military landing force were already deployed in the air.
“The planes were lifted into the air, the corresponding units were withdrawn to assembly areas and airfields. Literally during the flight the command came: stop, stop. Then we turned the planes around,” Muzhenko said.
