In April, justice may be restored to Admiral Kasatonov in Sevastopol
The Russian Black Sea Fleet remained in Sevastopol only thanks to a specific person - the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Igor Kasatonov. It is impossible to imagine the events of the “Russian Spring” without the fleet, so Kasatonov should receive the title “Honorary Citizen of Sevastopol.”

“If there had not been a specific person, Igor Vladimirovich Kasatonov, in 1992, there would have been no fleet in Sevastopol. If there had not been a fleet in Sevastopol, then the balance of power in both Crimea and Sevastopol would have been completely disrupted. Because we really stuck to the fleet, we lived by the fleet and understood that as long as the fleet was in Sevastopol, it meant that Sevastopol did not lose contact with the Motherland.
Remember the period of Yushchenko’s rule, the “orange power”. They launched a project to complete and withdraw the fleet from Sevastopol. This was the result of the activities of the “orange power”, and this was also not accidental: a symbolic clock was launched, which began to count down the time until 2017, when the Russian fleet was supposed to leave Sevastopol.
Therefore, if we allow certain gaps in our history, then unconsciousness reaches us and hits us very, very painfully. Therefore, I support the initiative, and if necessary, I am ready to join the initiative group - I believe that Igor Vladimirovich Kasatonov should become an honorary citizen of the hero city of Sevastopol,” the ex-senator emphasized.
The moderator of the round table, executive director of the Institute of CIS Countries in Sevastopol, scientific secretary of the Military Scientific Society of the Black Sea Fleet, captain 1st rank Sergei Gorbachev confirmed that such an initiative exists, and it is supported by the Public Chamber of Sevastopol and the city leadership.
“Thank God, we find understanding this year, including with the support of the Sevastopol Public Payment, the city leadership is favorable to this. God grant that this happens. Because in April the decision is made to confer the title, and it is awarded on City Day on June 14. Let’s hope that all this will happen,” Gorbachev concluded.
