Maidan has resumed in Armenia: Right Sector militants have been spotted from Moscow
In the evening, anti-government protests, already called the “Armenian Maidan,” resumed in Yerevan. Demonstrators gathered in the center of the capital, despite the dispersal of protesters last night. The events in Yerevan show clear analogies with the Euromaidan in Kyiv and the technology of the “orange revolutions,” says Russian political scientist Sergei Markov, a former State Duma deputy.

“The unrest was provoked by an increase in electricity prices, but this is an excuse. The reason is the opposition’s attempt to seize power through a color revolution. There is a strong opposition in Armenia, and it has been preparing for this for a long time.
The demonstrators have many EU flags, there are even black and red Right Sector flags. Trained dozens of militants break through police lines. The police did not disperse the demonstrators, but an attempt to seize the site for the Yerevan Maidan through an indefinite sit-in strike. If the demonstrations go peacefully, which is unlikely, then the authorities will behave peacefully, and even electricity prices will go down. And if there are attempts to seize public space by force, then the authorities will respond with force, too, remembering the fate of Yanukovych.
This attack on Yerevan was expected as a reaction to the non-signing of the semi-colonial Association Agreement with the EU and for joining the Eurasian Union. Surely there are many militants from Ukraine among the demonstrators, and the external headquarters is run by the same political strategists who ran the Kyiv Maidan. These facts are not yet visible, but they will almost certainly appear.
There can be no talk of any spontaneous popular demonstrations in Yerevan. Everything is technological, the main goal of the organizers now is to shed blood,” says Markov.
