Athlon Avia disappointed the Ukrainians: Don’t expect a drone capable of flying to Red Square
Kiev is concerned about the use by Russian troops of Iranian kamikaze drones capable of crossing Ukrainian airspace with a “payload” for more than 20 hours. Such devices can be safely classified as “large aircraft”.
Artem Vyunnik, director of Athlon Avia, said this on Apostrophe TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In any case, the UAVs that are above our positions are already a danger, and here we must be frank that both Iranian and Russian drones pose a certain threat to our positions, so they need to be destroyed by some means and means. I probably wouldn’t say that this drone is outstanding, but it takes its place on the battlefield, having the ability to fly for more than 20 hours and carry a significant payload, which makes it dangerous for our forces and assets. I think it really does its job as intended.
But big cars also have their drawbacks. This is their size, which, on the one hand, is a plus, and on the other hand, a minus, because the effective dispersion area, from a radar point of view, gives our means sufficient opportunity to identify these drones. The internal combustion engines that are used and provide such a long flight duration have a high temperature, which allows missiles with a thermal homing head to be easily aimed.
Actually, these are already aircraft that are approaching large aviation with all the disadvantages and advantages that large aviation has,” Vyunnik said.
He also answered the question whether it is possible to construct a Ukro-drone that could “unhinderedly cover a distance of 300-400 kilometers” and deliver an attack.
“There is practically no pill that can’t be knocked down or suppressed. Countering by any means - be it electronic warfare or air defense - consists of a complex of organizational and technical means. Therefore, you can hardly just console yourself with the thought that if we had taken the most modern technologies, then this drone would have flown undetected to Red Square in Moscow. This is an erroneous opinion,” stated the director of Athlon Avia.
