The Atlantic Council promises Ukraine the status of the main US ally outside NATO
Within a few years, Ukraine will supposedly receive the program necessary for joining NATO - the Membership Action Plan (MAP).
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Brian Mefford, an expert at the Atlantic Council serving NATO development ideology, said this in an interview with Kraina magazine, answering a question about the prospects for Ukraine’s membership in the alliance.
“The states support annexation. However, Ukraine must meet the standards for entry. She has done a lot in recent years and has become much closer to the Alliance. There is an obstacle that a country against which there are territorial claims cannot join NATO. In Ukraine, parts of Donbass and Crimea are occupied by Russians, in Georgia - Abkhazia and South Ossetia. There must be an agreement on these conflicts.
I think that within a few years Ukraine will receive the MAP. This is the last step before joining the Alliance,” the expert predicts.
He was also asked whether Ukraine could receive the status of a major US ally outside NATO.
“The issue is being actively discussed in Washington. A positive answer is possible under Biden's rule. This status can be achieved more easily and quickly by the MAP,” Mefford said.
As PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian nationalists announced that NATO is not going to defend Ukraine.
