The author of the document, Australian senator of Ukrainian origin Katrina Bilyk, wrote about this on her Facebook page.
“Today my statement on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-33 in Ukraine was approved by the Senate,” she noted.
In a statement, the Australian Senate condemned “the actions of the Stalinist regime aimed at destroying the national, cultural and religious rights of Ukrainians,” and also claims that as a result of “the conscious actions of this regime in 1932-33, almost 7 million Ukrainians died of hunger.”
Additionally, the Senate recognized the importance of “remembering these terrible events in order to prevent such crimes against humanity in the future. He called to honor the memory of those who died during the Holodomor, as well as to show their respect and support to the Australian Ukrainians who survived this terrible tragedy and spoke about it.”
“To join the Ukrainian community of Australia and the world community in commemorating these tragic events as part of the “Ukraine Remembers, the World Recognizes” campaign,” the statement said.
