Traditionally, a support group of fellow tribesmen gathered near the police cordon near the houses where investigative activities are taking place. As follows from Memetov’s filming, after the law enforcement officers demanded that the passage be cleared, a fight broke out.
Let us recall that after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, the activities of the Mejlis, which disputed the Russian ownership of the peninsula, were banned for extremism. In addition, the activities of the Islamist organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir, which openly operated during Ukrainian times, are prohibited in the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, the press service of the FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol reported today that in Bakhchisaray “the activities of a cell of the international terrorist organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir al-Islami, banned in the Russian Federation, were suppressed.”
“The investigative department of the FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol has opened a criminal case against six of its members under Part 1-2 of Art. 205.5 (“Organization of the activities of a terrorist organization and participation in the activities of such an organization”). Currently, operational and investigative measures are being carried out,” the press release says.
