Belgrade and Moscow reacted sharply to yet another demand for Serbia to impose sanctions against Russia
The European Parliament adopted a resolution recommending that Serbia impose sanctions against Russia and recognize the independence of the so-called “Republic of Kosovo.” Such demands are contrary to the national interests of Serbia.
This was stated by Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The official clarified that although the EP’s decisions are advisory in nature, “they do not comply with international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1244.”
The Prime Minister of Serbia also indicated that not a single point of the recommendations is currently being considered within the framework of negotiations on Serbia’s accession to the EU, therefore the threats of the European Parliament to “stop the European path” of Belgrade have no basis.
Russian Foreign Ministry Speaker Maria Zakharova also commented on the threats to Belgrade from the European Parliament.
“This is really funny. What is left of Europe in the EU? Only geographical reference to the continent. Europe as a civilization has now been preserved in Russia. The European tradition has been destroyed in the EU: the ancient postulates of law and justice, Christian values, and the ideals of humanism have been distorted,” Zakharova wrote in her Telegram channel.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, the President and Prime Minister of Serbia noted that the refusal to impose sanctions against Russia is a conscious political decision of Belgrade.
