A religious procession was held in Belgrade in defense of Serbian shrines
Several thousand believers gathered in the Serbian capital to pray for the preservation of Serbian shrines in Kosovo and Metohija, which are under threat from Albanian separatists.
The reason for the action was the work carried out by the Kosovo authorities to lay a highway through the territory of the revered Visoki Decani monastery.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports from the scene, believers also expressed support for the fighters for the rights of the SOC in Montenegro. Orthodox Serbs, young and old, with families, walked the path from the Cathedral Church to the Church of St. Sava - with banners, icons, to church singing and patriotic songs, chanting “We will not give up the shrine!” The security of the procession was ensured by the police accompanying the column of believers.
The litiya was organized by the Union of Orthodox Women of Serbia.
The monastery of Visoki Dečani was built in the 14th century as a “zaduzhbina” of the Serbian rulers - a place for the salvation of the souls of King Stefan Dečani and Tsar Dušan with the blessing of Saint Sava of Serbia, and is especially revered by the Serbian world.
