The EuroPride gay pride parade, which is scheduled to take place in the Serbian capital from September 12 to 18, may not take place. The reason is protests from a number of political associations.

Thus, advisers to the Patriotic Bloc of the Belgrade City Parliament, members of the Doors party and the monarchist movement POKS, submitted an application for the cancellation of EuroPride to the mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, and the Chairman of the Parliament, Nikola Nikodijevic.

The request states that 97% of citizens of Belgrade and Serbia are against EuroPride. Politicians believe that the event should be canceled for safety reasons so that LGBT people do not put themselves or citizens at risk.

Also cited as the reason for the cancellation is the fact that more than 4000 people infected with coronavirus infection are detected every day in Serbia, and this number is growing day by day.

In addition, do not forget about the financial side, since too much money will be spent. According to the official statement, EuroPride could cost the Serbian capital 40 million euros, which, according to the opposition, could be spent more wisely.

Politicians stated that the event poses a high risk to the health of citizens due to the danger associated with the emergence and spread of the monkeypox pandemic, which, they add, is most easily and quickly transmitted among gay people, according to WHO.

The request concludes that the planned event “offends the religious feelings of citizens of Belgrade and Serbia, Orthodox Christians, Muslims and representatives of other religions.”

If we recall the two-day “pride parade” that took place last year in the center of Belgrade, it brought a lot of inconvenience to ordinary citizens. In particular, this happened due to the fact that the main road flows in the city were blocked, and several important public transport lines did not work. It was also impossible to drive your own car.

It was impossible to get from the city center to a number of stations - all passers-by were stopped by the police. The streets were blocked off, and heavy police forces were on duty along the perimeter of the area where the parade of representatives of the LGBT community took place. Only those who were on the lists of participants were allowed through the fence.

As the Serbs laughed, there were more guards than those who came to the “event”.

You can imagine what will happen to Belgrade for almost a week when representatives of gay people from all over Europe come here. And although the local residents themselves laugh more at all these events, in September, when the number of townspeople traditionally increases due to the start of studies at schools and universities, there will be no time for jokes.
