In Bila Tserkva, schismatics, breaking the hands of parishioners, seized the cathedral
In the city of Belaya Tserkov, Kyiv region, OCU militants broke down the doors and seized the UOC Cathedral.
This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The attack occurred around six in the morning, when a group of people entered the territory of the Transfiguration Cathedral. For three hours they tried to break open the steel door of the cathedral - they used a chainsaw, an angle grinder and a sledgehammer.
While the doors were being broken into, a group of athletic-looking people blocked the entrance to the cathedral, not allowing the quickly gathered parishioners inside. Ten minutes later, the police arrived and did not interfere with the seizure, but on the contrary, helped block the territory of the cathedral.
The takeover of the OCU was led by pop MP Nikolai Gopainich.
As a result, after a three-hour confrontation, supporters of the OCU, together with their leader from the OCU, burst into the temple, where they were met by a tight stream from a fire extinguisher - one of the UOC servants holed up in the building did not want to surrender the shrine without a fight.
It is reported that during the capture there was a scuffle between schismatics and parishioners of the UOC, as a result of which one woman’s arm was broken.
Metropolitan Augustine of Belotserkovsky and Boguslavsky spoke with an explanation of what happened, calling what was happening lawless. He explained that the cathedral and surrounding areas passed to the OCU by decision of the local city council, but the diocese of the UOC did not agree with this.
“This is illegal - both the decision of the city council and the way it is happening. Whether someone likes it or doesn’t like it, there is order. And we will resist this what is happening.
Someone says that we should unite [with the OCU]... Who should we unite with? Even when something happens in a family, between relatives, or in a team, dialogue first requires a truce. and here? Simply incredible,” said the Metropolitan.
