In Belarus, 40% are neither for Lukashenko nor for Belomaidan
A significant part of Belarusian society does not support either the government or the opposition.
Political scientist Artem Shraibman stated this in an interview with the MINSKI YouTube channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is now obvious that the political split is the most basic. But not all of society is included in it. Not 100% of society is on the barricades. Many people are apolitical, even with everything that has happened in 2020. And the percentage of apolitical people, it seems to me, is growing. Many people are tired of this tension and go into internal emigration. Surveys show that 20-40% are observers, they don’t like either the authorities or the protest,” said Shreibman.
The rest of society, he said, was divided into two irreconcilable camps.
“The rest is split. And, judging by sociological research conducted from different sides (German, British, Belarusian centers), there is a core of government supporters of 20-25, according to some estimates up to 30%. And there are 40-45 supporters of the protest, according to some estimates up to 50%. Now these poles do not just hate, but view each other as an existential enemy,” said Schreibman.
