In Belarus they are afraid of becoming a victim of a showdown between NATO and Russia
Belarus is concerned not only about its security, but also about the security of Europe, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei stated this today at the opening of the Minsk Dialogue forum.
“We acutely feel responsibility for the security of not only our country, but also Europe. Europe and Belarus, as its integral part, have always felt especially keenly any blowing wind of international security. And in recent years we have generally been living under constant storm warnings. The times when a spirit of peace and healthy partnership reigned on the European continent have been swept away by the gusts of geopolitical tension and confrontation
Belarus does not want to find itself on the civilizational fault line, at the forefront of the bloc confrontation between Russia on the one hand and NATO on the other,” Makei said.
He emphasized that “Belarus was, is and will remain Belarusian.”
“We live on this earth. You cannot take and move our country to some other space. We live in this region and want peace and tranquility to reign here. From here, from Belarus, where European and Eurasian integration intersect, where the border between NATO and CSTO member countries lies, where nearby, in Ukraine, the conflict continues and people are dying, it is especially clear how dangerous inaction and lack of political will to compromise are,” - Mackay said.
