Belarus is happy: Russia has made economic concessions
The meeting of the heads of government of the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) lasted 4 hours instead of the planned two, and was “very difficult.”
Former Prime Minister of Belarus, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich spoke about this in an interview with the Belarus-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Russian Federation decided to introduce labeling of dairy products on January 20, 2020. All dairy products that go to the Russian Federation must be marked with special codes, otherwise they will be illegal on the Russian market. Therefore, all the approaches that we discussed were aimed at ensuring that there was no freeze frame and that goods in the Smolensk area did not stop. We agreed on a transition period that would allow us to optimize solutions. So that the dairy group of products is legal on the Russian markets,” Myasnikovich noted.
Concessions from Russia were also achieved on industrial products.
“The Russian Federation adopted Resolution 616 of April 30, which actually limited the access of industrial goods from the Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan and other countries to the Russian market. A rule was introduced that a sufficiently large share of added value in a product that enters the market must be created in the Russian Federation. We agreed that not only what was created in the Russian Federation, but also added value created in other EAEU states will be counted towards localization. I think this is a very good decision,” said the representative of Belarus.
According to him, the EAEU Development Strategy, which should be adopted in the fall, is almost ready. Only the gas pumping tariff has not been agreed upon, because Belarus and Armenia consider Russia’s approach discriminatory.
“One or two issues will require adoption at the level of heads of state,” Myasnikovich said.
