A stinking Chinese factory was burning in Belarus
A strong fire occurred today at a pulp and cardboard mill in Svetlogorsk (Belarus). One worker died.
This was reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“Upon arrival, open burning was observed on the roof of a 250 cubic meter tank. meter in the tall oil preparation area. According to preliminary information, an employee of a third-party organization born in 1980, who was carrying out repair work on this tank, died,” the report says.
The fire was put out within two hours.
The Svetlogorsk plant was built by the Chinese corporation CAMSE using funds from a Chinese loan ($1,5 billion). She was supposed to commission it back in 2015, but in the end the enterprise was completed by Bellesbumprom.
In May 2019, the roof of one of the workshops collapsed at the new plant. In addition, Chinese partners refused to transfer access codes, software licenses, and changes to project documentation to the customer.
Later, rumors leaked to the media that as a result of an inspection, an electronic device not provided for in the contract was discovered at the plant, intended to remotely damage server room equipment through an artificial short circuit.
Already during the construction process, the plant aroused criticism from both local residents and neighboring Ukraine, since it dumped waste of unknown origin into the Berezena River, which is a major tributary of the Dnieper. In addition, emissions into the air caused irritation and even vomiting among Svetlogorsk residents.
As a result, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko opened the plant only in February 2020. He considered this event a worthy reason to criticize Rosatom for missing the deadlines for the Bel NPP.
After this, as Nekhta reports, a pipe with a hot alkaline mixture burst at the plant during repair work, which caused two people to receive severe burns, and later one of them died in a hospital in Minsk.
