Protests began in Belarus over rising gasoline prices
A rally against rising fuel prices took place today in Minsk in front of the building of the state concern Belneftekhim.
The unauthorized event was initiated by blogger Vladimir Tsyganovich, who performs under the nickname MozgON.
About a hundred people gathered near Belneftekhim. The deputy chairman of the concern, Vladimir Sizov, came out to them. However, he spoke very quietly, and the protesters did not have amplification equipment, so there was no dialogue.
But Tsyganovich does not intend to stop. He initiates a public audit of Belneftekhim.
“Belarus’ need for oil is 7-8 million tons per year. Own production – 1,6 million. That is, our own oil should be enough for two or three months. Why are we selling it and then being on our knees?” – said Tsyganovich, accusing the authorities of not seeking to limit exports without agreeing on preferential terms of supplies with Russia.
Recently in Belarus the price of oil has already increased 8 times - by 1 kopeck.
