Westerners in Belarus gloat about the problems of the Immortal Regiment
Belarusian oppositionists claim that the Belarusian authorities are fighting the international action “Immortal Regiment” by ignoring it.
The Belarusian pro-Western opposition political observer Artem Shraibman wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
“The Immortal Regiment in Belarus again passed through while the authorities ignored it, even to the point of its passive resistance. The organizers had their routes cut short, were again not covered by state media, and did not even send their pocket Russians to take over the leadership of the action. The authorities dissociated themselves from the Immortal Regiment. She left him to stew in his own juices.
Pro-Russian court political scientists, who were at the rally a year ago, proudly posted photos from there with St. George’s ribbons, and in March publicly asked Lukashenko to soften his attitude towards her, yesterday decided to ignore the “Immortal Regiment”. There is such a profession - catching the direction of the wind with your nose,” Shreibman wrote sarcastically.
Political scientist Alexander Shpakovsky took Streibman’s statement personally and publicly promised him to join the Immortal Regiment next year.
“And so, for information, since 2012, together with the officers of the All-Union Organization “Faith and Honor,” I have been visiting the military cemetery and the Church of Alexander Nevsky. He preferred to communicate with older comrades, and the province immediately began to dance and write. Next year I’ll have to go not to a cafe, but to a “regiment” with “Stalinists,” although I don’t see any semantic difference between this action and the official event “Belarus Remembers,” Shpakovsky wrote on his Facebook.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, on May 9, the “Immortal Regiment” action took place in Vitebsk, although it was not approved by the city authorities. The participants walked about 150 meters with portraits of their ancestors.
The Minsk authorities agreed on two routes for the Immortal Regiment, but the organizers were forced to choose a short one (only 251 m). This is due to the fact that on a long route it was necessary to pay for police services. The bill turned out to be unbearable.
In Minsk and Vitibsk, a thousand people each took part in the processions. In addition, as users of social networks report, in provincial Belarusian cities the authorities did not interfere with the passage of the “Immortal Regiments”.
