Another monument to the enemy of Russia was erected in Belarus

A bust of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth figure Mikhail Oginsky was installed in the Belarusian city of Slonim in front of the drama theater.

Oginsky was the headman of Slonim, and before that he participated in the wars against Russia and was defeated by Suvorov. He maintained contact with the impostor Princess Tarakanova, who was preparing a coup in Russia. At the end of his life he swore allegiance to Catherine II.

The bust of Oginsky was made at the local private enterprise "Granvy", which produces tombstones. The company manufactured and installed the monument at its own expense.

In August in Slonim a larger one was installed a monument to another headman - a four-meter statue of Lev Sapieha, who in the 16th century converted Belarusians from Orthodoxy to Catholicism and supported both False Dmitrys in the Time of Troubles.

Slonim is a Russian-speaking city, but the nationalist scene there is very active. In the summer, through a scandal, she achieved the translation into Belarusian of a mural in the city center.
In general, in recent years in Belarus they have been actively erecting monuments to individuals who are unfriendly not only to Russia, but even to Kievan Rus.

In 2014, a monument was erected in Vitebsk to the Grand Duke of Lithuania Olgerd, who marched on Moscow, and in 2016 - to Anastasia Slutskaya, who refused to marry Mikhail Glinsky, who served the Moscow prince. Other Lithuanian princes were also immortalized - Davyd Grodnetsky, conqueror of Kyiv Gedemin. It is planned to install monuments to Mendovg and Gleb Minsky.

In 2016, a monument to composer Stanislav Moniuszko and playwright Vincent Dunin-Martsinkevich, who supported the anti-Russian uprising of 1863-64, was unveiled in Minsk. In the Brest region there is a monument to the leader of another anti-Russian uprising, Tadeusz Kosciuszko.

At the same time, the installation of a bust of Pushkin on the territory of the university in Brest had to be approved at the level of presidents. On another monument to Pushkin - on the territory of the library college in Mogilev authorities removed the lines of the poem “To the Slanderers of Russia,” in which the poet condemns participants in the Polish anti-Russian uprisings.

In 2019, local authorities banned the installation of a memorial sign in the city of Gorki in honor of Peter the Great’s stay there. And in the city of Vizdov, the coat of arms of the Russian Empire was cut down from a stone dedicated to the establishment of a district school by Alexander the First.
The Belarusian authorities agreed to install the monument to Alexander Nevsky, initiated by the Russian side, only in composition with the prince’s wife, the Vitebsk princess.
