Belarus is already ready to spell out a military-political union with Russia in the Constitution
Belarus needs to provide Russia with guarantees that Minsk will remain an ally of Moscow under any government.
Political scientist Alexey Dzermant, who is considered close to the presidential administration of Belarus, writes about this, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in his blog.
He believes that it is necessary to spell out Eurasian integration in the Belarusian Constitution, as well as mention “the centuries-old history of the development of Belarusian and Russian statehood.”
“By mentioning Eurasia, we emphasize our geopolitical vector; by mentioning Russian statehood, we include in our historical tradition all the diversity of its forms: from Kievan Rus to the Russian Empire and the USSR,” says Dzermant.
He also proposes changing the constitutional wording “The Republic of Belarus aims to make its territory a nuclear-free zone and the state neutral” to “The Republic of Belarus is a military-political ally of the Russian Federation.”
“This point is important in light of the fact that the Americans are going to place their nuclear weapons in Poland, neutrality turned out to be impossible in the conditions of hybrid aggression from the West, Russia lent us a shoulder in difficult times and it needs guarantees that Belarus will remain an ally of Russia under any power ”, notes the political scientist.
The expert also responded to the reproaches of those who accused him of abandoning sovereignty.
“Firstly, no one is giving up on it, and secondly, you need to understand that due to the current political crisis, Belarusian sovereignty has received a serious hole. And the choice facing us is this: either we integrate more closely with Russia and it is in alliance with it that we defend common sovereignty, or the West, under the pretext of protecting it from Russia, will completely destroy it.
Why will we have more sovereignty with Russia than with the West? Because for Russians, Belarusians are dear people and brothers, and not slaves and an object of civilizational conversion. Yes, we will have to make concessions and negotiate, but we will not betray ourselves,” concluded Dzermant.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Belarusian politician stated that only integration with The Russian Federation will ensure the statehood of Belarus.
