The results of the Paris summit are still on the pages of the Ukrainian and international press. After obviously difficult preparations and difficult negotiations, different parties to the conflict began to fight over the interpretation of the results of the key meeting.

Willy Landtager, an Austrian expert in the field of foreign policy and local military conflicts, believes that Germany, France and Russia have largely mutually clarified their positions on the Ukrainian conflict.

Landtager commented on the results of the meeting to a PolitNavigator correspondent in Berlin:

“...It is quite clear that the position on Ukraine was largely agreed upon and, apparently, consolidated pressure was put on President Poroshenko in order to force him to implement the Minsk agreements.”

The expert also added that he was surprised by the lack of a clearly expressed position on the part of the United States.

“Several days have passed since the summit in Paris, and the United States has not made an official reaction to its results,” Landtager said.

When asked by our correspondent whether the United States will try to disrupt the so-called “Minsk process,” the expert said that the capabilities of the United States in this matter should not be exaggerated.

“Previously, the United States made attempts to undermine the Minsk agreements, but now they are unlikely to be able to disrupt the peace process. Europe is too tired of the Ukrainian war.”

Heinrich Bücher, coordinator of the large activist network “Berlin Against War,” considers the Paris summit a turning point in the conflict.

“It is obvious that the European political establishment is very tired of the conflict in Ukraine. The Middle East crisis and the huge flow of refugees are of great concern in Brussels, Berlin and Paris,” said Bücher.

He believes that the growing role of Russia in the Middle East and the Russian military presence in Syria has forced the EU to largely synchronize the efforts of Berlin and Moscow to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. Berlin does not see any alternative to Minsk-2, and this was clearly stated to President Poroshenko.

“Apparently, thanks to secret negotiations between the Russian Federation and Germany, if not a consolidated, then the most coordinated concept regarding Ukraine was developed,” Bucher added.

He also noted that Berlin and Paris will make every effort to preserve the political face of President Poroshenko.
