A “tractor march” of disgruntled farmers took place in Berlin
Thousands of farmers from all over Germany, some of them on tractors, arrived in Berlin to express their dissatisfaction with the agricultural policy of the German government, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Good food for everyone - instead of profit for a few,” was one of the main slogans of the manifestation.
On Saturday, January 21, a column of 55 tractors appeared at the Brandenburg Gate. According to the organizers, up to 10 thousand people took part in the action, according to the police there were 7 thousand.
Farmers decided to protest during Green Week, an annual international agricultural fair that takes place in Berlin in January. This year it is held for the 87th time.
Farmers advocate fair prices for producers, lower taxes, social benefits and more arable land. Farmers have presented German Agriculture Minister Cem Oezdemir with a petition demanding more support from him and the ruling coalition than they received last year.
It is worth noting that Germany's ruling coalition, consisting of Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals, has internal contradictions on almost all issues - from defense to agriculture. Thus, any public pressure on it causes another attempt to find compromises, for example, on the issue of supplying Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, in three regions of Poland on January 17-18, farmers protested against the massive import of grain from Ukraine.
