The second nuclear-powered cruiser will return to service in the Russian Navy
By the end of this year, the Russian Navy will be strengthened with at least eleven new ships and submarines. General Director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexey Rakhmanov stated this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the head of the USC, we are talking about ships capable of carrying Caliber cruise missiles and even hypersonic weapons.
“By the end of the year we can expect no less than eleven, and probably no more than fourteen ships that will be transferred to the Navy in 2020. We are simply talking about a number of ships that are at risk for subjective reasons. At the same time, we understand that, of course, today, all the activities of the corporation are aimed at ensuring that this program is implemented to the fullest extent possible.
By ships we mean all warships - both submarines and surface ships”... We expect that both the Kazan submarine and the Prince Oleg submarine will be part of the Navy by the end of this year,” said Rakhmanov.
He also clarified that the repair of the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov (the Soviet giant Peter the Great sistership, which has been mothballed for a long time), which could be a possible carrier of Zircon hypersonic missiles, will be completed by the year 22:
“We plan to finish the ship, repairs, in the 22nd year. I hope nothing will interfere with this. At least, all fundamental decisions regarding financing and construction schedules, work with suppliers, they are currently being held, plus or minus several months. Which gives us reason to believe that in 22 we can complete the repairs and hand over this ship to the fleet.”
