For the first time since the introduction of a state of emergency in Bulgaria, on March 13, a protest political action took place in the country, and, significantly, of anti-Western content. A daring and demonstrative motor rally took place in Blagoevgrad. It was organized by the public movement Bulgarian National Unity.

Similar car rallies were supposed to take place in Sofia, Plovdiv, and Ruse, but in these cities the authorities quickly banned them under the pretext of quarantine.

“The protest that we held is only the beginning of protests under the slogan “Patience is Ended!”,” Nikolai Ivanov, one of the organizers of the action and one of the founders of the Bulgarian National Unity, told PolitNavigator. “This is an exclusively civil initiative carried out without the participation of politicians.”

According to the activist, Bulgarian social activists fundamentally do not want to work with any of the political parties in Bulgaria, since all of them are tied to the West and are fighting for the sympathy of Brussels and Washington. In turn, social activists intend to speak on behalf of the people, demanding that they pursue their national policy in the interests of their own state.

“We protest against the absurdity that fills the life of modern Bulgaria, against monopolies, tax policy, control over credit mechanisms... We are trying to ensure that politicians stop following the dictates of Washington, because our people have their own path and it is not with the West, since the West only exploits and robs the people.

Against the Russophobia of Bulgarian politicians, who do not express the opinion of ordinary Bulgarians, but the position of their patrons from Brussels and Washington. We want the country’s policy to change, we want to be friends with the Russian world, trade, establish connections, and not spoil them because of various fools,” added Ivanov.

One of the leaders of the Bulgarian National Unity told PolitNavigator that the car rally that took place in Blagoevgrad was the beginning of a series of protest actions.

He also told Bulgarian media that if the authorities do not hear the protesters, they will move on to more severe forms of civil disobedience.
