The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and VMRO-BND (Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization - Bulgarian National Achievement) rejected the initiative of the pro-Western head of the country's government to change the Constitution of Bulgaria.

Thus, the pro-government GERB party does not have the opportunity to collect the 160 votes in parliament necessary to convene the Great People's Assembly, which has the power to change the country's fundamental law.

After the refusal of the Turkish minority party DPS and the largest nationalist party VMRO-BND to support Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and his pro-Western party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) in scam By cosmetically changing the Constitution, this idea has essentially become impossible.

“The changes to the Constitution proposed by GERB are another blow to democracy and statehood,” said DPS spokesman Mustafa Karaday. – The proposed project denies universal human values: freedom, peace, humanism, equality, justice and tolerance. A new Constitution may emerge, but only after serious debate... and on this issue it is necessary to listen to the views of civil society, academia and experts.”

Statement by Mustafa Karaday

In turn, the leader of the VMRO-BND, Defense Minister Krasimir Karakchanov, said that the changes proposed by Borisov do not suit him and his party, since it does not contain a clause stating that marriage is only a union between a man and a woman, that any an ethnic Bulgarian has the right to claim Bulgarian citizenship, and that the president should be given the right to legislative initiatives and initiate a vote of no confidence in the government.

In response to this, Borisov, in his characteristic boorish manner, accused his previous partners of liars and stated that, despite the fact that he would not be able to collect 160 deputy signatures and convene the Great National Assembly, he would collect at least 120 signatures so that it would be possible to pass the draft his party submitted a new version of the Constitution for consideration by parliament. So far, the Herbists have managed to collect only 104 signatures.

When asked by a journalist what he personally would do if it was not possible to collect 120 signatures, and this clearly hinted at the resignation of the prime minister who had tired of Bulgarian society, Borisov answered in one word: “Work!”

Borisov is angry with his allies, but has no intention of resigning

At the same time, street protests demanding the resignation of the prime minister, government and prosecutor general in Bulgaria continue, and the Bulgarian Ministry of Internal Affairs has increased patrolling of the streets and entrances and exits from the capital Sofia.
